France’s Silver Medalist Gabby Williams Re-Signs with Seattle Storm for 2024 Season

Gabby Williams has re-signed with the WNBA’s Seattle Storm for the remainder of the 2024 season, following an impressive silver medal performance with France at the recent Olympics, the team announced on Tuesday.

Williams, who is returning for her third season with the Storm, originally joined the team before the 2022 season through a trade with the Los Angeles Sparks.

“I’m thrilled to return to Seattle. I’ve missed the organization, my teammates, and the fans tremendously. I can’t wait to come back and finish the season strong,” said Williams, who was recently named Best Defensive Player at the Paris Games.

During the Olympics, Williams delivered a stellar performance, averaging 15.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.8 steals across six games for France. In the gold medal match, she scored 19 points and played a pivotal role in nearly leading France to victory over Team USA. The game was narrowly decided with a 67-66 win for the Americans.

With just 3.8 seconds left and Team USA leading by three, Williams drove down the court and launched a dramatic shot as time expired. Her attempt, which hit the backboard, was a near miss as her foot was slightly on the line, making it a two-pointer.

“Gabby’s performance at the Olympics highlighted her elite talent, and we’re excited to have her back as we aim for the playoffs,” said Head Coach Noelle Quinn. “She’s a versatile two-way player who excels on both ends of the court. Her familiarity with our system will allow her to make an immediate impact.”

The Storm, currently third in the Western Conference and fifth overall with an 18-10 record, will play their next game at home against the Washington Mystics on Monday.
